Two quintessential nature-loving, African farm girls, two imaginations equipped with natural style, two mother tongues and ideas over spilling.
Laura enjoyed a unique childhood on a Tea Estate in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. Her love for nature and the desire to capture it in her own artistic hand was nurtured here. She took her inspiration with her through a textile design degree in the U.K. Her talents were confirmed, along with her love of Africa, where she returned as a textile designer working in the local South African industry and designing for international companies in Hong Kong and the U.K.
Irma?s similar animal-filled, natural farm upbringing took a more scientific turn in her medical biochemistry degree, but she found a creative outlet in her talents as a photographer. Her startling and beautiful macro images makes you question how much we miss out on, when we don?t take the time to appreciate the detail.
It has been Laura?s dream to have her own business, designing distinctive textiles inspired by the African bush veld. This dream became possible in 2006 when meeting Irma, whose talents compliment her own. Laura bringing creative flair and design expertise to the business. Irma?s sense of style coupled with her business background ensures the company is equipped with business and marketing knowledge.
In their sophisticated but natural products, the secrets of the early morning veldt come to life fusing nouveau African themes, where colour, pattern and simplicity reign. The name ?veldt? a word which when spoken simultaneously through the benefit of dual language:
Afrikaans ? veld ? the African bush veld; evokes images of natural beauty and English ? felt - tactile emotion.
Veldt Design?s mission is to produce a stylish, versatile range of interior product, accessories and gifts, with a strong design focus, and attention to detail. Veldt Design is committed to excel on all levels of design, presentation and customer service. Keeping a strong focus on these allows us to maintain honest and lasting relationships with people we deal with. Careful consideration is given to manufacturing processes and we use natural sustainable materials. We endeavor to support local suppliers; all products are hand printed and handmade in South Africa.
